March 2005
For over 5 years Fugro has been carrying out UXO clearance services to the UK construction industry.
Fugro announces major improvements to it's service for the investigation of UXO affected sites in UK
and Europe – from 1 st January 2005 we have been supplying a new improved Unexploded Ordnance (UXO)
site clearance service, from desk study, through surface clearance and deep in situ investigation to
managed disposal.
Piling, excavations and drilling has a significant safety risk from unexploded bombs on some sites in
the major cities and near bombing targets. World War II and subsequent military activities have
created a legacy of unexploded ordnance (UXO) that still pose a risk to construction activities sixty years on.
Should you suspect one of your sites is possibly affected by UXO we would be pleased to discuss a solution. We offer complete
advice on how to economically mitigate against UXO risk using Fugro's extensive experience in geophysics, drilling and CPT.
Our UXO service includes threat assessment (Desk Study); surface investigation with geophysical
techniques; deep in situ investigation using our Magcone probe; managing UXO disposal. The Magcone is
mainly used before piling to ensure large aerial-delivered unexploded bombs are not encountered. Our
Magcone is a totally new and much improved magnetometer housed in an ultra-low diameter cone
fabricated from exceptionally high quality non-magnetic metals. The result is the highest standards
of safety at a lower cost.
