Cone Penetration Testing
Fugro has been performing Static Cone Penetration Testing (CPT) in the UK on land and over water for more than 30 years.
We are able to offer a complete service to our clients with the largest range of Cone Penetration Testing rigs in the UK for any application.
We have a large data base of sites on which we have worked over the last thirty years and can give advice on the suitability of using
Cone Penetration Testing on your site. We are able to carry out ~200m of Cone Penetration Testing probing in a day and provide our
clients results on site and via e mail immediately each test is finished.
Geotechnical Applications

As well as having the largest range of cone penetrometers in the world we are able to take high quality piston
samples and perform in situ vane shear tests from the Cone Penetration Testing rigs. We have geotechnical cones
which measure in situ a range of soil parameters from shear strength and relative density to stiffness and dynamic
properties of the soil. The CPT measurements can be used with established correlations to derive such parameters as:

Geoenvironmental Applications

We have developed a number of geo-environmental cones which can detect the presence of contamination whilst at the same
time measuring geotechnical properties without the need for drilling and laboratory testing. These contaminants include:

- landfill leachate
- methane
- ionic chemicals (acids \ alkali)
- crude oil derivatives - e.g. petrol, diesel, jet fuel, oils & coal tar etc.
- chlorinated solvents
- radiation
These geoenviromental probes are well proven and have been commercially used on
numerous sites in the UK and across Europe.
