Sampling and In-situ Testing
As part of our comprehensive service to the construction, water, mining and waste management industries,
Fugro Engineering Services offer a full range of site and laboratory testing, sampling and instrumentation
for soil, rock, construction materials, groundwater, gas and leachate applications in accordance with the relevant
British Standard.
In-situ testing
We have the equipment and resources to carry out a wide range of in-situ tests to support our
comprehensive ground investigation service. This service is also available to complement our clients'
own resources or to provide additional independent support to a project.
The following represents a selection of tests offered by the company:
- Menard pressuremeter tests
- Self boring pressuremeter tests
- High pressure dilatometer
- Static cone penetration tests
- Dynamic probing tests
- Standard penetration tests
- Permeability and pumping tests
- In-situ vane tests
- In-situ density tests
- Plate bearing tests
- Geophysical testing and borehole logging
- Closed circuit television borehole surveys
- Toxic and hazardous gas monitoring and sampling
Sampling
We also provide a wide range of sampling techniques, some undertaken in association with drilling
services and others using purpose- made sampling equipment. We can offer the following range
of sampling equipment:
- general purpose 100 mm diameter open drive soil sampling
- rotary core sampling
- 100 mm and 250 mm diameter undisturbed piston soil sampling
- 100 mm diameter undisturbed pushed thin wall soil sampling
- small diameter continuous window sampling
- disturbed sampling of potentially contaminated soils
- discrete and pumped water sampling in wells from 25 mm diameter
- Mostap continuous soil sampling
Instrumentation and Monitoring
Our staff will provide designs for the installation of instrumentation systems to provide
continuous monitoring of excavations, earthworks and structures. We can also provide systems for logging
water and leachate levels in boreholes, continuous electrochemical measurements of water quality and for
monitoring soil borne gases.
Systems provided include:
- standpipe and hydraulic, pneumatic and vibrating wire piezometers
- inclinometers and slip indicators
- electro level sensors
- extensometers
- settlement cells
- water level monitoring systems using single or multi channel data loggers and transducers
- multilevel groundwater monitoring
- groundwater pollution monitoring
- gas monitoring
